Public invited to comment on county disaster recovery plan

Earlier this year, Cook County was selected to receive over $244 million in Community Development Block Grant-Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to support rebuilding after 2023 and 2024 storms and flooding.

Written comments may be submitted by Monday, July 28. They should be directed to Cheryl Cooke, deputy director, Cook County Department of Planning and Development at [email protected].

The funding helps cities, counties and states recover from presidentially declared disasters, especially in low-income areas, subject to funding availability.

Part of the process of developing the county’s Draft CDBG-DR Action Plan for this funding is to promote resident participation and solicit input. The county is asking for public feedback to ensure the recovery plan meets local needs.

The draft is available in English and Spanish, and accommodations are available for other translation and access needs.
