The District 233 school board hired Homewood-Flossmoor High School alumnus Brandin Brown as the new head coach for the Vikings boys basketball program at its meeting Tuesday, June 17.
In its provided statement, H-F called Brown, a 2007 graduate, a respected leader in the basketball community who will bring a wealth of experience in player development, leadership and mentoring both on and off the court.
H-F said throughout his career Brown has been committed to the holistic development of student-athletes.
“We are thrilled to welcome Coach Brown to the H-F family,” said H-F Athletic Director Matt Lyke. “His vision for developing student-athletes aligns perfectly with the values of our school and community. We are confident that his leadership will continue the proud tradition of H-F boys’ basketball while building an environment where student-athletes can thrive both on and off the court.”
Brown currently serves as the co-founder and program director of the Illinois Flight Basketball Program, a grassroots basketball organization in the Midwest. Under his leadership, Illinois Flight has won multiple AAU National Championships since 2018. The program is recognized for its commitment to developing youth not only as athletes but as students, leaders and individuals.
Brown’s high school coaching career began at St. Viator High School where he served as associate head coach working at both the sophomore and varsity levels.
He later joined the varsity staff at Bolingbrook High School contributing to several deep state playoff runs and mentoring numerous student-athletes who advanced to play collegiate basketball. His expertise in player development and offensive strategy played a key role in the program’s sustained success, according to the statement.
In addition to his high school and AAU experience, Brown currently coaches at the national level as the 15U head coach for Nike MeanStreets on the Nike EYBL circuit. His 15U squad recently qualified for the 2024 Peach Jam, a premier event that showcases top young basketball talent nationwide.
