Homewood Stories will feature five storytellers at the Tuesday, June 10, show, which will be hosted by Jill Howe.
The monthly storytelling event is an intimate evening of true, personal storytelling at the FCC Community House, 847 Hutchison Road, Flossmoor. Each show features storytellers who share honest, moving and often funny tales from their own lives.
Tellers in June will be:
- Sheri Reda of Chicago, who works as a celebrant, public speaker and youth librarian. Her poems have appeared in “Eocene Journal of Environmental Humanities,” “The Nature of Our Times” and “Dear Human at the Edge of Time” among other publications.
- Joe Mellon has told stories at Fillet of Solo and OutSpoken. He works as a health guide.
- Jill Schacter of Hyde Park is the co-host of The Paranoid Retiree podcast. Since retiring in 2021 from work as a communications professional she paints weird, abstract rabbits and is a certified yoga teacher trainer.
- David Barish has told stories all over the Chicago area, from Homewood to Highland Park and places in between. On July 13 he will be the emcee of Skokie Bike Network’s Third Annual Tales from the Trails at Sketchbook Brewery.
- Host Jill Howe is a storytelling instructor and show producer based in Chicago. Since 2013, she’s curated Story Sessions and a monthly open mic. She also teaches storytelling at the Newberry Library.
Tickets are $15 at the door, cash or check only. Guests can bring their own beverages, dinner or snacks. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Show starts at 7:30 p.m.
