‘Violet’ musical being staged by The Drama Group

The Drama Group will present the moving story “Violet,” a musical being staged over two weekends starting Friday, April 28.

Violet is a young woman who has facial disfigurement. She embarks on a journey from her farm community in North Carolina by Greyhound bus to Tulsa believing a televangelist there will be able to heal her. Along the way, Violet meets two soldiers on their way to an assignment in Arkansas. Together they share their desires and hopes for Violet in their lives.

The musical, first performed off-Broadway in 1997, won the Drama Critics Award and Lucille Lortell Award as best musical.

Cast members include Will Knox of Flossmoor as one of the two soldiers, and Marylee Hoganson of Homewood as the old lady. Russ Hoganson of Homewood is set designer.
