Flossmoor celebrates 100 years of electrified rail service

The history of Flossmoor and the Illinois Central Railroad came together Wednesday morning as Metra celebrated 100 years of electrified rail service with a pop-up event at the Flossmoor station.

The event featured historical displays, railroad memorabilia and conversations with longtime railroad employees and local historians, highlighting how the Illinois Central’s decision to electrify its commuter line helped shape both Flossmoor and rail transportation in the Chicago area.
