Mobility Matters: Dutch reach, nice drivers and new anti-speeding law

Good drivers use the Dutch Reach. On June 5, Chicago Department of Transportation worker and safe cycling advocate Riley O’Neil was riding in a bike lane on Halsted Street in Chicago. A driver opened a car door as he passed, knocking him into the travel lane, where he was struck and killed by a semi.

O’Neil’s death might have been prevented by a very simple maneuver on the part of the driver.
