Flossmoor Public Library Closure. The library will be closed from noon to 5 p.m. on Friday, June 5, for staff in-service.
Dixie Highway Viaduct Project. The project to repair the viaduct drainage system and resurface Dixie Highway north of the viaduct will officially begin Monday, June 1. The 90-day closure of the viaduct to traffic will begin June 8, according to village officials. The detour route will follow 175th Street, Governor’s Highway and 183rd Street.
Pace Bus Route 356. Due to construction on the Dixie Highway viaduct, Route 356 buses will not operate on Wood south of 171st and Dixie north of Ridge starting Monday, June 8. Regular service will resume when construction is complete.
Court Closure Notice. The tennis court in Orchard Park on Olive Road in Homewood will be closed Monday, June 1 through Friday, June 5, for repairs and improvements.
Friday, June 5
Art & Garden Street Fair. Homewood will host its annual street fair along Martin Avenue between Ridge Road and Hickory Road. Festival hours are 4 to 9 p.m. today. Organizers expect more than 80 local and regional artisan vendors selling art, handmade goods, vintage finds, garden décor and locally sourced food. Music from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday by Big Weekend followed from 7 to 9 p.m. by Not My Dad. A wide selection of food trucks, local restaurants and beverage vendors will be available throughout the event.
Teen Summer Reading Blast Off. Celebrate the start of Summer Reading with live music by Septima and Bugs Will Fly, plus sno-cones, games, karaoke, and ice cream sundaes from 6 to 8 p.m. at Homewood Public Library, 17917 Dixie Highway. Register here.
Teen Night at the Club. From 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. H-F Racquet & Fitness Club gym will be open just for teens. Hit the volleyball court, challenge your friends to ping pong, play bean bags on the turf, and explore the fitness center at your own pace. Submit your favorite songs for the playlist. Price includes food and drink. Grab your friends and kick off summer the right way — active, social, and stress-free. For anyone age 13 to 16. Fee is $12. Click here to register.
Drama Group Presents ‘Clyde’s.’ The Drama Group’s production of Tony Award-winning “Clyde’s,” will be presented at 7:30 p.m. at Milord Theatre, 330 W. 202nd St., Chicago Heights. This show has an R rating for strong language, adult themes and explicit sexual references. Tickets are $25 for adults, $23 for seniors and members of the military, and $19 for students. Homewood Farmers Market. The market will be open from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Martin Square between Chestnut and Ridge roads in downtown Homewood.
Barb & Dan’s Road Ride. A 25-mile fitness bike ride. Everyone stays together. Leaves GoodSpeed Cycles, 2125 W. 183rd St., every Saturday (weather permitting) at 8 a.m. Returns before 10 a.m. Pace dictated by the riders who show up. Explore our local streets and trail system with Barb & Dan Lawler.
Off-Leash Ride. A nine-mile bike ride at about a 9-to-10 mph pace every Saturday. Route includes Butterfield Creek bike path, Rovers Run and Izaak Walton Preserve. Starts at 8:30 a.m. from GoodSpeed Cycles, 2125 W. 183rd St. in Homewood. Ends back at the shop about 9:30 a.m. for donuts. Kid trailers welcome.

Live music will begin with Southside Soul Kings from 1 to 3 p.m., Southtown Soul & Groove follows from 4 to 6 p.m. and concludes with 28 Days, from 7 to 9 p.m. A wide selection of food trucks, local restaurants and beverage vendors will be available throughout the event. Free face painting will be available on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The Kids Maker Space will feature interactive art experiences, including a Homewood Science Center painting project from noon to 3 p.m. and an Art Corner Frames project from 3:30 to 6 p.m.
STEM Saturday. Homewood Science Center, 18022 Dixie Highway, will host its free weekly science play time for the whole family from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Play opportunities include Pixel Pegs, Nano, Early Math Counts Activities, Makerspace, Imagination Playground, Dinosaur Bones, LEGO Wall and more.
Summer Reading Kick Off. Stop by Homewood Public Library, 17917 Dixie Highway, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. to get started on Summer Reading. There will be two special programs during the day, including T-Rexplorers at 10 a.m., an opportunity to learn about dinosaurs by looking at their bones, and plant swap at 1:30 p.m. Bring your plants to swap with others. Kick Off to Summer Reading with Dan Gogh’s Grow Show. Flossmoor Public Library, 1000 Sterling Ave., will host its Summer Reading kick-off from 3 to 4 p.m. The Dan Gogh Grow Show is a hilarious, hoe-down magic show all about growing. Through amazing magic, wacky puppets, and laugh-out-loud comedy, kids discover that reading is like planting a tiny seed in your brain. Register here.
Purple Rain. Freedom Hall, 410 Lakewood Boulevard, Park Forest, will screen the classic film “Purple Rain” at 7 p.m. Celebrate the birthday of Prince by experiencing this legendary movie on the big screen once again.
