The District 233 school board created a new associate principal position and appointed two new administrators at its April 21 meeting.
Brian Garland will be associate principal for strategic initiatives, a newly created position. He currently is Math Department Lead.
Garland joins Assistant Principal Jim Schmidt and Associate Principal Craig Fantin working with Principal Clinton Alexander.
Superintendent Jennifer Norrell said the three each will have assigned duties categorized as Operations, Student Support and Strategic Initiatives. She said the position for Garland was created to guarantee follow-through with the teaching staff on all the new programs and changes Homewood-Flossmoor High School will implement in the 2026-27 school year, including a scheduling change and a Pathways Program that will give students hands-on opportunities in 19 different career fields.
Megan McEwen-Terry will be director of special education. She comes to H-F from East Aurora School District 131 where she is director of student services.
David Kush will be lead for the Social Science Department. He is a long-time employee who has been overseeing H-F assessments.
The board also changed the title of department lead, formerly department chairperson. The persons in those leadership positions will now be classified district leads.
The board accepted the resignations of Department Leads Jacalyn Bailey, special education; Michael Camp, world language; and Sharonda Kimbrough, social science.
The board also hired five new teachers for computer applications courses in the Career and Technical Education program.
