The story of the cabaret in 1920s Berlin comes to live when the Drama Group presents the musical “Cabaret” opening Friday, April 10.

Through songs and commentary, the Master of Ceremonies welcomes the audience and assures them they will forget all their troubles. Life is beautiful at the cabaret, as Germany slowly yields to the emerging Third Reich.
The story revolves around Cliff, a young American writer newly arrived in Berlin, who is taken with English singer Sally Bowles. At the same time, their landlady Fraulein Schneider, tentatively begins a romance with Herr Schultz, a mild-mannered fruit seller who happens to be Jewish.
The cast includes Meghan Hoyt of Homewood as Fraulein Schneider, Em Spikes of Flossmoor as Fraulein Kost, and Rachel DeBoer of Homewood as Lulu.
“Cabaret” show times are 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, April 10 and 11, and again on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, April 16, 17 and 17; 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 18, and 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 12 and April 19. All shows are at The Drama Group stage, 330 W. 202nd St., Chicago Heights.
