The Heather Hill Civic Association is going to reorganize its neighborhood watch group into a neighborhood care network.
At the Feb. 17 meeting, HHCA president Ashly Giddens discussed how the watch group doesn’t have to be only about safety issues.
She pointed to house fires in December and January and wondered how the association can find ways to offer support to neighbors going through disasters and other issues of concern. Donations and gift cards are helpful, but knowing neighbors care is most important.
“Really thinking that even if we don’t have a surplus of funds, looking at where we can still be supportive inside the community to let everyone know that we are here as a family and support where we can,” said HHCA Treasurer Crystal Cleggett.
Meeting participants also reviewed block captain responsibilities, including fostering connections in the community, maintaining communication and sharing information with block residents and other block captains, keeping residents aware of safety resources and community support.
Other discussion topics included finding more ways to communicate with residents on and offline.
Heather Hill resident and Flossmoor Trustee Rosalind Mustafa reminded HHCA members of Mayor Michelle Nelson’s efforts to welcome a Trader Joe’s to Flossmoor.
Residents who want a Trader Joe’s in the village can support the initiative by filling out a request on the store’s official website.
