The Chicago Heights Drama Group production of Ntozake Shange’s choreopoem “For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide/When the Rainbow is Enuf” runs Feb. 13 through Feb. 22 at the The Drama Group studio theater in Chicago Heights.
The play is directed by Cordaro Johnson and is part of the Drama Group’s 95th season of shows.

The show will be performed by an ensemble of nine Black women, centering on their shared survival, expressed joy and journey of healing.
“Each woman brings her own truth, and together they create a powerful, collective voice that honors the spirit of this work,” Johnson said.
The relevance of Shange’s work — which includes violence, love, identity, resilience and self-worth — continue to be realities for Black women to this day. Johnson wanted to ensure he was surrounded by women who could share their voices and guide the actors through his vision.
Enveloped in a “Night at the Museum” theme and aesthetic, the theater will showcase artwork by black, women artists, curated by Dana Todd Pope of Women’s Live Artist Studio. The art will be available for purchase throughout the show’s run.
“‘For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide/When the Rainbow Is Enuf’ is an offering to our community — a reminder that when Black women are seen, heard and supported, we all rise.”
