District 233 board approves building improvements at H-F High

The District 233 school board approved several upcoming building improvement projects at Homewood-Flossmoor High School.

At the board’s Dec. 16 meeting, members approved a $2.33 million contract with Precision Control Systems, Inc. for replacing the HVAC units in A-Building in the South Building this summer. The system is about 30 years old and the controls are obsolete.

The board accepted a bid of $479,615 from DiverzifyPro Flooring. While work is being done in A-Building, the carpeting, primarily in the hallways, will be taken up and replaced with flooring.

Also part of that contract is replacing the carpeting on the third floor of North Building. The 15 classrooms and hallways will be getting flooring that is guaranteed for 10 years. The project is budgeted for the 2026-27 fiscal year and will be done in the summer.

The board authorized the administration to go out for bids for repaving the tennis courts. An assessment showed the courts have a good base, the courts don’t require a total rebuild. Work will begin on the south courts in March and crews will then move to the north course which should eliminate any conflicts with tennis team schedules.

The board also approved the solicitation of bids for the replacement of the roof over the H-F Library and T-Building for work this summer.

To address concerns raised by residents about security in H-F buildings and the H-F campus, the board agreed to a $7,600 contract with Vulnerability Solutions Group, LLC for a threats and vulnerability assessment. Company representatives will spend several days on campus and prepare a report for the board. Superintendent Jennifer Norrell said the findings will be discussed in closed session.
