The Flossmoor Village Board approved a request on Nov. 17 for an on-premises consumption liquor license for Opulence Gallery at 3313 Vollmer Road.
Opulence Gallery is an event venue that requested a Class E-VGP license, a private event license. It will allow for the sale of liquor during private events for persons who are attending the event that is not open to the public.
The event venue opened in Flossmoor in 2020. Owner Diana Doss has a second location in Orland Park.
According to staff, two municipal codes who be changed with this classification. The weekday hours of operation now extend another hour to 11 p.m. and the license fee increases from $500 to $1,500 due to the bar service for event attendees.
Trustee George Lofton asked about operating hours and what liquor license the business has at the Orland Park location.
Doss said events average around six hours, and the later events could go as late as midnight with the business wrapping things up around 11 p.m. and making sure everyone is out by midnight. Doss confirmed the other location has a similar license.
Trustee Kevin Dorsey asked for more clarification on when liquor would stop being served.
Trustees learned that at a party taking place from 6 p.m. to midnight, the liquor sales would be from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m., with the last hour consisting of cleaning and shutting down to be out by midnight.
Dorsey followed up asking what precautions there would be for someone who wanted one last drink and tried to walk off the premises with it.
The business operator usually has a discussion with the host before the event on the venue’s rules and regulations which will include termination of liquor sales.
