My Happy Porch: Decorating for appeal

As the holiday season approaches, My Happy Porch is working to give your home a special presentation.

The business, started by Jen and Tommy Rudan of Homewood, first started with fall decorations. Now they’re ready to move into the Christmas/Hannukah season.

“I just love decorating. It’s one of my favorite things to do,” Jen said.

The idea wasn’t theirs. A friend in the business of installing holiday lights for homeowners shared a story with the couple about a woman in Texas who started a business decorating front porches, and it got the Rudans thinking, “Wouldn’t that be a cool side gig? There’s no time to start like the present,” Jen said.

She built a website at myhappyporch.com and is expanding into other social media.

They did some fall decorating but now they’re gearing up for the December holidays.

“For the winter season, I would be making the wreaths and the garland around the door in various styles depending on what type of winter décor you’re looking for,” Jen said. “We’re doing the winter, the (pricing) packages will be wreathes, garland and two or three signs or a poinsettia display.”

The couple will meet with the homeowner to learn if they want to go with a specific theme, or preference on color and style of decorating.

“I’ll find and buy or make the decorations. It just depends on the preference of the client,” she said.
