The astronaut came to the Trick or Treat Trail on Saturday. So did several princesses, along with cartoon and movie characters, including Bingo and Bluey, Pooh and his friends and the Little Mermaid.
It wasn’t just a showing of kids. The Homewood-Flossmoor Park District’s Halloween celebration included parents in costume, too.
The mild weather was perfect for a walk along the path at Millennium Park in Homewood where 16 organizations, including several from the park district itself, welcomed kids who walked from table to table to get their Halloween treats.
Zak Kerby, parks recreation supervisor who organized the event, said 500 families registered for the three-hour event, but he was sure that number was surpassed by at least another 100 families.
There were 20 stops along the route. Business and organization participants were Patrick Zamkin of Edward Jones Investments, Orthodontic Experts, Homewood Masonic Lodge, Creative Approaches to Therapy, South Suburban Special Recreation Association, N.Formation Balloons, Homewood Public Library and the village of Flossmoor.
The three staff members from Creative Approaches to Therapy drew attention by their dancing and cackling mimicking the three witches from the 1993 movie “Hocus Pocus.”
Members of the Homewood-Flossmoor High School Key Club and National Honor Society manned the Homewood library game table Monster Buckets giving kids a chance to pitch balls into a row of buckets. Another tricky one was Eyeball Relay that had kids carry on a spoon a ping-pong ball decorated like an eyeball.
Park staff represented the park district’s Discovery Preschool at the Irwin Center, Irons Oaks, H-F Racquet & Fitness Center, H-F Ice Arena and Wiley’s Grill at Coyote Run Golf Course.
