Homewood-Flossmoor flag football was more successful than coaches expected at the start of its inaugural season this fall.
In August, Coach Walter Collins Jr. said he’d consider the season a success if everybody finished the year healthy and still with the team. Anything beyond that would be gravy.
“Everybody saw the need (for flag football) because there’s a lot of kids in the fall that are not doing anything athletically,” Collins said. “This was just about encouraging our kids to try new things and be comfortable with new experiences.”

The Vikings finished 10-4, posting six shutouts. They rotated through three quarterbacks before settling on junior Paris Jones and seeing the offense take off. H-F won the final three regular season games by an average score of 65-2.
The sport was only sanctioned by the IHSA in 2024 but over 200 schools participated this autumn. H-F finished its season with a 28-20 loss to Stagg in the regional.
Boys golf advances to sectional
The H-F boys golf team finished third in the regional it hosted at Ravisloe Country Club. Junior Noah Bigli carded an 82 to lead the Vikings, good enough to tie for eighth individually.
H-F finished 12th at the Lockport sectional with no individuals advancing to state.
Curtis qualifies for sectional for girls golf
Senior Riley Curtis posted a 92 at the Shepard regional, good enough to be the top individual outside of the three advancing teams. H-F finished fifth overall.
The top three teams move on to the next round in the IHSA postseason. The top 10 individuals outside of those teams advance without their teammates.
Curtis shot a 95 at the Lockport sectional and did not move on to state.
Soccer is .500 in regular season
Boys soccer won the final three regular season games to finish 9-9-2 before taking on Thornton in the opening round of the Stagg regional. The Vikings overcame a halftime deficit with a pair of second-half goals to win 4-3.
They would take on the host Chargers in the next round Oct. 25.
Williams advances to state in girls tennis
Senior Laila Williams finished fourth at the Sandburg sectional as an individual, securing a spot to advance to the state tournament. Williams beat Stagg’s Greta Rimkevicius 6-3, 6-2 in the final of her bracket.
