Homewood Commuter Parking Lot Closure. The south commuter parking lot at 18015 Park Ave. will be closed from 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 17, until 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 20, for sealcoating and restriping to maintain and improve the surface condition. During this time, all vehicles must be removed from the parking lot to allow the contractor to complete the work. Any vehicles remaining in the lot will be towed at the owner’s expense. All vehicles should be removed no later than 7 p.m. on Friday. No vehicles shall return to the lot until the barricades and signage are removed and the surface is dry. Chess Club for All. Homewood Public Library, 17917 Dixie Highway, will host an hour of fun playing chess from 4 to 5 p.m. Practice skills or learn the basics of playing the game. The club is for all ages.

Witches’ Night Out. Homewood Business Association will host its annual Halloween event in downtown Homewood from 5 to 8 p.m. Shoppers are encouraged to don their best witch costume. The organization will hand out 100 bag-totes filled with promotional items from member businesses.

Witch’s Pour: A Haunted Cocktail Workshop. H-F Park District will host a Halloween-themed mixology class from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in Irwin Community Center, 18120 Highland Ave. in Homewood. Participants will create three seasonal drinks — each one creepier and tastier than the last. Tools, ingredients and even some ghoulishly good snacks will be provided. For anyone 21 or over. Teen Movie Club. Homewood Public Library, 17917 Dixie Highway, will host a showing of “Godzilla” (2014, rated PG13) from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Enjoy pizza and a movie with friends. Registration is required.

Birth of Universal Monsters. Flossmoor Public Library, 1000 Sterling Ave., will host a session on Universal Pictures horror films released between 1913–1956.
