“Walk Walton has become one of our most beloved traditions at the Homewood Science Center,” said Edie Dobrez, HSC executive director. “It blends hands-on science, outdoor adventure and community spirit.

“Whether you’re exploring the trails, discovering wildlife, making spooky slime or picking the perfect pumpkin, there’s something for everyone – and every ticket directly supports our mission to inspire scientific wonder, learning and pursuit,” Dobrez said.

This rain or shine event from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. allows guests to hear from representatives of the Forest Preserves of Cook County who will offer guided nature activities. There will be a hands-on conservation project led by HSC’s Conservation Ecology Interns, STEM activities inside the preserve’s Black Bear Lodge presented by the Challenger Learning Center of Northwest Indiana, and the Illinois Natural History Survey’s Traveling Exhibit is back by popular demand.

Kids will get to enjoy the Insect Petting Zoo presented by the University of Illinois Extension, spooky slimey science and the pumpkin patch and Jack-O-Lantern decorating table.

Tickets are available at homewoodsciencecenter.org. Tickets are $5. The fee includes a backpack, pumpkin and decorating kit. Senior citizens are welcome to join the fun for free, but are asked to reserve a ticket to help staff make accurate plans for the event.
