Homewood’s annual Fall Fest will return on Saturday, Oct. 11, between Martin Avenue and Kroner Lane from noon to 9 p.m. Attendees can expect to enjoy food and plenty of delicious bites, starting with the Chili Cook-Off competition and tasting.
Cook-Off hours at the fest will take place from 2-5 p.m. The judges will taste test the chili (without toppings) at 2 p.m. before tasting opens to the public at 3 p.m. for the price of a $5 donation. Proceeds will go to a local nonprofit called Spotlight Performance Academy, Homewood Events Manager Marla Youngblood said.
“Led by Homewood resident, Carrie Bonanotte, The Spotlight Performance Academy is dedicated to providing high quality performing arts education to children and adults in Homewood and the South Suburbs,” Homewood Communications and Engagement Manager Antonia Steinmiller said.

According to Youngblood, the first place winner of the chili contest will receive $150. There also will be a People’s Choice Award recipient who will get $100.
Applications to participate in the competition closed as of Sept. 5. All 20 contestant positions for the competition are full. There is a waitlist in case of a cancellation for those still interested in competing. To be put on the waitlist, contact Youngblood at [email protected].
Fall Fest attendees can check out the pumpkin patch from 4 to 6 p.m., with the proceeds also being donated. Kids can enjoy face-painting and crafts, plus a rock-climbing wall, Steinmiller said.
Artisan vendors, both local and regional, will be available to shop from. Samples from Homewood’s favorite restaurants will also be offered, she said.
“Homewood Brewing Company has quickly become a local favorite, blending community pride with creative, small-batch beers,” Steinmiller said.
Homewood Brewing Company, founded by Carmela Wallace, mother of the late rapper Juice WRLD, will make its debut at this year’s fest. Attendees will have the opportunity to try a new special fall-themed brew that will be crafted exclusively for the event, Steinmiller said.
Throughout the fun, festivalgoers can jam out to a mix of blues-rock and R&B, to soul and groove, with a finale of 1980s hits, she said.
Admission and parking will be free. For more details, visit www.homesweethomewood.com.
