Homewood Fire Department Open House combines family fun with fire safety education on Oct. 4

Come learn about fire safety and meet firefighter/paramedics at the Homewood Fire Department’s annual open house from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct 4.

Kids can participate in the Fire Safety Hero Obstacle Course, see a fire truck up close and ask questions about firefighting and what it’s like to be a firefighter/paramedic.

Firefighters will again demonstrate the power of home sprinklers to extinguish a fire with minimal damage to a home. The University of Chicago medical helicopter is scheduled to be at this year’s event.

As a special treat this year, the Cook County emotional support dogs will be visiting. Representatives from Homewood Veterinary Care will talk about pet care and pet emergencies.

The department  will be giving away fire safety education teaching materials from years past that could be especially helpful to teachers and homeschoolers.
