Flossmoor introduces Good Neighbor Week for community engagement

The Flossmoor Community Relations Commission is marking Good Neighbor Week Sept. 22 through 28 by calling on residents to do charitable deeds for their neighbors. Random acts of kindness can include helping with yard work, walking pets, giving food, inviting them to dinner, helping them run errands and more.

Commission member Molly Deugaw spoke at the Sept. 15 village board meeting. She said member Charlotte Smith came up with the idea for a Flossmoor activity in keeping with National Good Neighbor Day on Sunday, Sept. 28.

Deugaw said, “This is a good way to outreach and get to know your neighbors whom you may not have even known.”

Deugaw said if residents receive kind acts from neighbors they are encouraged to share their stories on social media using the hashtag #LoveFlossmoor.

“We’re hoping by sharing these stories, that people will be empowered to do this throughout the year and not just one week of random acts of kindness,” Deugaw said.

At the end of the week there will also be a behind-the-scenes tour of the Flossmoor Public Library from 6 to 8 p.m. Sept. 28.
