Flossmoor Streetscape Update. D Construction will begin grinding asphalt in the central business district at 6 am. Friday, Sept. 12. As a result, parking spaces on Sterling Avenue, Central Drive and Park Drive in the work area will be closed. Parking spaces will be reopened as soon as work is completed in the area. Drivers should observe the 10 mph speed limit and follow directions from the flaggers while driving through the site.

Homewood Planning and Zoning Commission will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 11, in village hall, 2020 Chestnut Road. The agenda is available here.

Bel Canto Trial Run. Aspiring singers in grades kindergarten through 2 can join the first rehearsal from 4:15 to 5 p.m. and teens and adults can join from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Homewood Science Center, 18022 Dixie Highway in Homewood. The first rehearsal of the season is a chance to see if singing in a group is something that sparks interest and joy in your life. This event is free. Details on how to register for the rest of the season will be available.

Books Without Borders. The first session of the Books Without Borders community book club will meet from 6:45 to 8 p.m. at The Rock Shop, 18109 Dixie Highway, to discuss “So You Want to Talk about Race” by Ijeoma Oluo.
