Clarification: The original headline indicated the village had accepted three bids. The bids have been opened and the board will at a future meeting accept one.
Village staff will begin evaluating three bids for a business site that once housed Delanoe’s Pizza.
The bids were opened and revealed at the Homewood village board meeting on July 22.
The village took the property at 18155 Dixie Highway due to foreclosure and in 2020 accepted a proposal for a Mediterranean restaurant. That never came to fruition.
Noah Schumerth, Homewood assistant economic and community development director, said since the property is not located in a tax increment financing district, the village chose to sell it through a bidding process. The sale was advertised in a Chicago newspaper for three weeks.
Schumerth revealed the three sealed bids:
- Munir Bawadi for the intended use to establish a Mediterranean restaurant with an offer price of $4,000.
- Mike Husain for the intended use to establish a southern Asian restaurant with an offer price of $50,000.
- Eric Baker for the intended use of creating a soft-play facility for children ages 7 and under $1,000.
The next step is for village staff to evaluate the three bids and then make a recommendation to the board, Mayor Rich Hofeld said.
