Heat Alert. The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory in effect from 10 a.m. today until 10 p.m. Thursday. The high temperature both days is expected to be in the mid-90s and heat indices could remain in the 90s during most of the overnight hours Wednesday.
Bubble-ology. Irons Oaks Environmental Learning Center, 20000 Western Ave., will host from 4 to 5 p.m. a chance to experience the joy of soapy magic. A non-paying adult must accompany the child. Wear clothes that can get wet and soapy, and don’t forget to bring a towel. For ages 2 to 10. The fee is $10 for H-F Park District residents and $12 for non-residents. Click here to register.
Flossmoor Streetscape Project Update. Crews began storm sewer construction last week. The mailbox formerly located on the west side of the traffic circle was moved to a spot nearby on Central Drive. Next week, sidewalk removal will continue, plus curbs and sidewalks will begin to be replaced, starting in front of the U.S. Post Office. Homer Trees will also be on site to remove remaining tree stumps and root pruning. Downtown businesses remain open during construction. Free parking is available in the north and south commuter lots.
Christmas in July Toy Drive. The Flossmoor Community Relations Commission toy drop off continues through July 31. Donation boxes are available in Flossmoor Village Hall, 2800 Flossmoor Road, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Toys will be shared with Faithful Meals in Motion, a non-profit organization that serves many school-aged children during the holiday season. Preferred toys include baby dolls with accessories, karaoke machines, art kits sets for ages 8 and up, kitchen sets, scooters and bikes (20 or 24 inches), big plush toys, Easy Bake ovens, dinosaur toys, Transformers and monster truck toys, Marvel action figures, Hot Wheel sets with tracks, Sonic toys, remote-control cars and trucks and soccer balls and volleyballs.
