The Flossmoor board of trustees expressed support for an economic incentive and liquor license for Flossmoor Social, a new restaurant coming to the village, at the June 16 board meeting.
The owners of 7th Floor Hospitality Group, Louis Morgan and Cory Singleton, presented the requests and concept plans for the restaurant that will be at 1040 Sterling Ave., which previously was the Bistro on Sterling.
The Hospitality Group currently operates The Embassy Cigar Lounge.
According to a memo to the board, 7th Floor Hospitality Group is looking for a $25,000 economic incentive to cover part of the cost of replacing the property’s HVAC system and to reinstall and reconfigure the ANSUL (fire) system.

The downtown TIF district had a balance of $93,000 as of April 30, and village attorney Kathleen Orr said the request was an allowable TIF expense.
The new owners also are requesting a liquor license which will allow them to sell and serve alcohol.
Morgan and Singleton spoke about the requests and presented to the board the concept of designs and menu for the restaurant and took questions.
Mayor Michelle Nelson took time to praise Morgan for the work he has done as a resident and in his career, and praising their preparation for Flossmoor Social.
“I think this falls right in line with the village’s priorities to expand our tax base, add investment to our downtown, furthering our reputation … as a destination maximizing the potential of the property,” Nelson said.
Trustee Gary Daggett spoke highly of the group’s previous work with the cigar lounge which has a good track record. He said he believes they will continue with the new restaurant.
Trustee Rosalind Mustafa got clarification that there will be no smoking allowed in the establishment.
Trustee Jim Mitros said he is grateful for the work being put into redoing the systems on the property and said this was needed for the downtown Flossmoor area.
A sign at 1040 Sterling Ave. indicates the owners hope to open this fall.
