Union Street Gallery seeks artist to create mural

Union Street Gallery in Chicago Heights announced recently an open opportunity for an area artist to create a mural for the city.

The mural will be located across the street from the gallery at 1526 Otto Blvd.

The project is part of an effort to bring vibrant public art to the Chicago Heights community.

The gallery is looking for someone with bold, creative ideas that reflect the spirit of community without the use of detailed portraiture. Abstract work, nature, silhouettes of people, or other imaginative interpretations are encouraged. Artists are invited to bring their unique perspectives and styles to their proposals.

Applicants who are age 20 or older can submit the following via an online form:

  • A short artist statement and bio (one to two paragraphs).
  • A brief proposal outlining your concept (250 words max).
  • A resume or curriculum vitae of past experiences and/or training.
  • A description of background with mural art.
  • Two to five images of past mural or large-scale artwork.
  • Up to two sketches or preliminary ideas for the proposed mural.

The deadline to submit is July 10.
