Art students at Homewood-Flossmoor High School continue to earn recognition and awards.
The South Shore Tri-County Exhibition May 4 at the South Shore Arts Center in Munster, Indiana, included works by students grades 6 through 12 from schools in Lake, Porter and LaPorte, Indiana, and Cook County’s South Suburbs. Three H-F students received first place awards and a $50 prize. Honorees are Frances Smith for mixed media; Morgan Lawrence for scratch board; Alanna Taylor for oil painting.
At the exhibition’s awards ceremony, the Nancy Benson Award, with a $500 prize, was presented to Lesley Contreras for her paper sculpture of a blooming chef’s hat.
The Berwanger Scholarship with a $2,000 prize was awarded to senior Javiyah Israel.
At the Art Connected Illinois High School Exhibition for the northern region of the state in April, Vianney Martinez received an honorable mention in photography and Raena Kaminski received an honorable mention in painting. At the Art Connected Senior Scholarship show, King Figueroa received an honorable mention for his work.
