“Racing for Democracy” is the theme for the League of Women Voters Homewood-Flossmoor Area annual meeting and luncheon. U.S. Rep. Robin Kelly, D-Ill., will be the keynote speaker.

The program is set for 1 p.m. Saturday, May 17, at Idlewild Country Club in Flossmoor. New league officers will be elected during the program.
Kelly has been a member of Congress since 2013 and has been a strong supporter of the needs of her constituents in Homewood and Flossmoor. She has been speaking out about President Trump’s cuts to the national budget and social programs.
Representatives of the league say the theme “Racing for Democracy” expresses members’ beliefs that the nation is in a constitutional crisis and there is an urgency to preserve democracy.
At the same time, the Kentucky Derby was run May 3. For fun, luncheon organizers are inviting participants to wear a Derby Day hat or fascinator.
Registration for the $65 luncheon is being accepted through Friday, May 9. Checks can be sent to LWV HF, PO Box 801, Flossmoor, IL 60422 or through Zelle at [email protected] Please add the note Annual Meeting to the details section.
