2 injured in shooting, 3-vehicle crash in Homewood

Two people were transported to an area hospital with minor injuries Tuesday evening after they were involved in a three-vehicle crash following a drive-by shooting at 175th Street and Dixie Highway.

Homewood police officers responded to a report of shots fired shortly after 6 p.m.

Police said the preliminary investigation indicates someone in a vehicle turning westbound on 175th Street from northbound Dixie Highway fired a number of shots at a second vehicle that was stopped at the eastbound 175th Street traffic light.

The vehicle from which the shots were fired continued westbound on 175th Street.

The vehicle that was shot at attempted to evade the gunfire and struck a third vehicle that was traveling southbound on Dixie causing that vehicle to strike a fourth vehicle that was stopped on northbound Dixie.

The second and third vehicles, plus an unoccupied vehicle parked in the Calumet Station lot, were struck by gunfire.

Homewood, IL – April 29, 2025 – On Tuesday, April 29, 2025 at approximately 6:08 P.M., Homewood Police Department officers responded to a report of shots fired and a traffic crash at the intersection of 175th and Dixie Highway. The preliminary investigation indicates that the occupant(s) of a suspect vehicle that was traveling northbound Dixie onto west bound 175th street shot an unknown amount of rounds at an occupied vehicle (Crash unit #1) that was stopped at the eastbound 175th traffic light at Dixie. Upon being shot at, the victim vehicle (Crash Unit #1) attempted to retreat and struck a vehicle (Crash unit #2) that was traveling southbound on Dixie causing this vehicle to drive into another vehicle (Crash unit #3) that was stopped on northbound Dixie at 175th. The offending vehicle fled westbound 175th street from Dixie.

Two occupants of Crash unit #2 were treated by Homewood Fire Department paramedics and transported to the hospital with minor injuries. Crash unit #1, #2 and an unoccupied vehicle parked in the East Hazel Crest Metra Parking lot were struck by rounds.
