H-F, Live Free to host mental health community event May 5

Homewood-Flossmoor High School and Live Free 999 Foundation will host a mental health community event on Monday, May 5.

Homewood and Flossmoor families are invited to attend the panel discussion from 7 to 8 p.m., in the Performing Arts Center Blackbox Theater, 999 Kedzie Ave. Guests should enter through Door 9. 

The event will be hosted by Carmela Wallace, founder of Live Free 999 and advocate for mental health awareness. The conversation will bring together students, mental health professionals and community partners to share insights, break stigmas and offer support for mental well-being.

Presenters Include:

  • Carmela Wallace of Live Free 999, will offer the welcoming remarks. 
  • Sarah Whitson of Crisis Text Line.
  • Kofi Shuck, H-F High School psychologist.
  • Kizawanda Olowe, H-F High Counseling Department Lead, will serve as moderator.
  • Student representatives of Bring Change 2 Mind.
  • Teri McKean of NAMI Chicago.
  • A representative from SunCloud Health.
  • Correy Bell, comedian and parent.

Before and after the discussion, families will have the opportunity to connect with a variety of local mental health organizations and wellness providers at resource tables, including Rosecrance, Nexus Lexus, Elevation Therapy, Serendipity Yoga and others.
