In February, Flossmoor School District 161 students attended the Illinois Music Education Association Elementary All-State Chorus. The students were recognized at the April 7 Board of Education meeting.

The students travelled to Peoria for the event. In the morning, they learned and rehearsed songs before performing them in a concert at noon the same day.

“It gives these young people an honor choir experience, getting to go downstate and perform in the Civic Center of Peoria,” Flossmoor Hills Music Teacher Daniel Burke said.

Burke thanked the board for giving the students the chance to meet other student musicians from around Illinois, and he stressed the importance of teaching children to take on big projects and use their voices.
