D161 second grader honored with technology award

At the March 24 board of education meeting, Flossmoor School District 161 recognized Lindsay Epley, a second grader at Western Avenue School, for receiving the 2025 Infinitec Outstanding Student Technology Award.

United Cerebral Palsy Seguin of Greater Chicago, a charitable non-profit organization, serves individuals with disabilities in the Chicago metropolitan area and beyond. Infinitec, their assistive technology program, utilizes technology to promote independence.

Special Education Director Jackie Janicke explained that Infinitec provides the district with support for assistive technology that helps students communicate and express their needs.

“We are so excited. Lindsay has done a marvelous job,” Janicke said. “Her assessment was just this year for this assistive tech, and she has just soared with it, so we’re very proud of her.”

Lindsay gave an acceptance speech using the assistive tech device.

“I want to say thank you to my mom and my dad for being the best parents ever, and thank you to my teachers in District 161,” Epley said. “I love using my device to say all the cool things.”
