Registration open for local Freedom Trail hike on April 26

Area residents will have a chance to walk in the footsteps of 19th century freedom seekers from 1 to 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 26. Register here.

The Midwest Underground Railroad Network (formerly the Little Calumet River Underground Railroad Project) will host a free hike and learning opportunity with Underground Railroad expert Larry McClellan.

The tour will be partly by bus and partly by a hike requiring moderate walking. Please dress appropriately for the weather. The journey will start at the Beaubien Woods Boat Launch on the Little Calumet River in Chicago just north of Dolton.

McClellan will tell the story of the formerly enslaved people who traveled through the region in search of freedom.

The event will be co-sponsored by the Forest Preserves of Cook County and the Calumet Heritage Partnership.
