The League of Women Voters will host a Women’s History Month event featuring speaker Aisha El-Amin, who currently serves as the executive associate vice provost for Student Success and Belonging at the University of Illinois in Chicago.

The event will begin at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 19, in Flossmoor village hall, 2800 Flossmoor Road. El-Almin will present “The Transformative Power of Our Words,” which will be followed by a Q&A period.

Refreshments, including a birthday cake honoring the league’s 105th birthday, will be provided.

El-Amin oversees a team of student support units that foster a culture of inclusive academic excellence for UIC students. She is a passionate advocate for student success and equity and is committed to ensuring that universities are pathways to opportunities for people of all backgrounds.

A commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion has been the cornerstone of her career, as acknowledged by Crane’s Chicago Business naming her as one of the notable Black leaders of 2024.

The League of Women Voters remains committed to diversity, equity and inclusion and “will keep working towards a multi-racial representative democracy in spite of increasing efforts to discredit the experiences and expertise of marginalized people — the very people who built this country,” league officials said.
