In honor of National Women’s History Month, Open Access is holding a donation drive for feminine hygiene products during the month of March.
Open Access is asking for donations of pads, liners and tampons. These items can be dropped off at 900 Maple Ave. in Homewood.
According to Director of Development & Community Relations Dodi Wians, women in underserved communities have a significant need these products.
“Last year, I found out that SNAP benefits did not cover feminine hygiene products, so we decided to do a collection for National Women’s History Month and International Women’s Day. It was a huge success,” Wians said.
According to Wians, they gave away more than 500 bags of product this past year.
“We have the bags here in our closet for individuals to take. We also share the bags with other non-profits in our community like Anew,” Wians said, referring to the local agency that supports victims of domestic violence.
These monthly bags that are provided to women and girls make a big difference, she said.
“These women are so overwhelmed with their situation that any small thing we can do to help them we work really hard to do. By providing these monthly bags, that one item is off their very long list of needs,” Wians said.
