In an email sent to voters Friday, Feb. 28, Cook County election officials announced the option to vote by mail permanently.
“This option will allow you to vote by mail in all subsequent elections held in Cook County,” the email stated. “You will still have the option to vote by mail in a single election if you so choose.”
Voters can apply to be put on permanent mail status visiting cookcountyclerk.com/VoteByMail.
Voters can apply online now to vote by mail for the April 1 consolidated election, which includes races for local government seats on school boards, village boards, park districts and library districts.
When you apply online to vote by mail, the Cook County Clerk’s office will send you emails:
- When your ballot is mailed to you.
- When the Clerk’s office receives your Ballot Return Envelope.
- When your ballot has been processed and counted.
Ballots will be mailed early in March. All vote by mail ballots come with postage-paid return envelopes.
Ballots can be returned by U.S. mail or by placing them in a secured mail-in drop box located at every early voting site. Sites can be found at cookcountyclerk.com/MBdropbox.
Ballots sent by U.S. mail must be postmarked on or before Election Day, April 1.
