PJ Progressive Shopping. The earlier you shop, the better the deals at the Homewood Business Association progressive shopping event starting at 7 a.m. at participating stores. No need to waste time getting dressed. Shoppers are welcome in their pajamas.
Lunar New Year Celebration. Come celebrate the Lunar New Year at a family-friendly event at the Flossmoor Public Library, 1000 Sterling Ave. The free event, hosted by the Village of Flossmoor and the Flossmoor Public Library, will be held from 10 a.m, to noon on Saturday, January 25. Registration is not required. The celebration is the brainchild of Molly Deugauw, a member of the Flossmoor Community Relations Committee.
“We are always trying, in the village of Flossmoor, to encourage intergenerational participation. We really like that this event fosters cultural awareness and understanding,” said Stephanie Wright, Flossmoor community engagement manager.
Attendees can listen to stories, make crafts, get a quick lesson on how to write in Mandarin, take photos against a cool backdrop, learn about the history of the Lunar New Year celebration and participate in a celebratory parade through the library.
Homewood Indoor Farmers Market. The first indoor market of the year will be from 8 a.m. to noon in the Homewood Auditorium, 2010 Chestnut Road. Fresh food, unique finds and homemade treasures await.
The Art of Falling: Safe Techniques for EveryBODY. Falling is an inevitable part of life. This workshop teaches you how to fall safely and minimize injury, incorporating martial arts, yoga and functional movement principles. Come to Serendipity Yoga and Wellness, 18300 Dixie Highway, at 1 p.m. dressed comfortably with your yoga mat and anything that helps you feel comfortable.
Improv Throwdown. Flossmoor Public Library, 1000 Sterling Ave., will host an improv event at 2 p.m. led by Kate Wiersema and Nelson Velazquez. Kids and teens will participate in a workshop, then have the opportunity to show off their favorite game for the other group and any parents that would like to watch. No theater experience necessary. For ages 6 to 18.
On Cloud Nine Open House. New day care center at 18341 Dixie Highway in Homewood will welcome guests starting at 11 a.m.
Bachata Nights at Cilantro. Learn how to dance the Bachata in a workshop at Cilantro Cocina Mexicana, 18755 Dixie Highway, at 8 p.m. The workshop is $10 and dancing goes until 10 p.m.
