McAllister comes to the Vikings from SouthWest Suburban Conference rival Sandburg, where he was 19-20 over the last four seasons and qualified for the postseason three times. The Eagles were 1-5 the season before McAllister arrived and were under .500 each of the previous five years.

Before that, McAllister was 94-28 in 11 seasons at Phillips Academy, where he won the Class 4A state championship in 2015 and the Class 5A state championship in 2017. They remain the only state football titles in Chicago Public League history. The Wildcats were state runners up in 2014.

McAllister coached 23 players at Phillips who would go on to sign to play Division I college football.

“We are thrilled to welcome Troy McAllister to the Homewood-Flossmoor family,” Athletic Director Matt Lyke said in a press release. “His record of success on the field, coupled with his dedication to education and community engagement, makes him the ideal leader for our football program and an outstanding addition to our teaching staff.”

McAllister’s first assistant coaching position was at Dunbar Career Academy High School. He also coached receivers at Queen’s University in Canada.

He’ll work as a physical education, health and driver’s education teacher at H-F. His teaching resume includes stops at Dulles Elementary School, Benjamin Mays Elementary School,  Phillips and Sandburg.

McAllister takes over for Terrell Alexander, who was 15-14 in three seasons leading the Vikings. Alexander was the defensive coordinator for his predecessor Craig Buzea, who finish second in 8A in 2014 and was 97-26 in 11 seasons with the Vikings.
