The Village of Flossmoor Green Commission and the Southland Green Committee are hosting a workshop on Monday, Jan. 20, to work on a craft project that will be part of an art installation in Chicago. It is one of the village’s Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service projects.
The project runs from 9 to 11 a.m. at Wiley’s Grill at Coyote Run Golf Course, 800 Kedzie Ave. in Flossmoor. Participants will participate in a hand craft and discuss ecological issues and learn about bird safety. All supplies will be provided for volunteers to decorate sewn bird plush bodies with bits of fabric and other materials.
Persons interested in volunteering can register online here.
There is a heightened awareness of bird deaths after 1,000 migratory birds died after colliding into windows at McCormick Place Lakeside Center on Chicago’s lakefront in October 2023. It was the highest number of bird deaths every recorded in one day at the building. The reported number of bird deaths is over 40,000 at McCormick Place since 1978. The windows have since been coated with a special film that has helped reduce the incidences of bird deaths.
