Flossmoor seeking volunteers, donations for 10th Annual Day of Service

Flossmoor is inviting residents to make a difference in the community by participating in the village’s Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service on Monday, Jan. 20.

This is the 10th year for this signature volunteer event in the South Suburbs. In 2020, the Day of Service was honored as a finalist in the Illinois Governor’s Hometown Service Award program.

“Celebrating 10 years of Flossmoor’s Dr. MLK Day of Service honors the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and the hundreds of volunteers whose dedication has made a lasting impact,” said Stephanie Wright, community engagement manager. “Their efforts remind us that service is not just a single day’s effort, but a way of living Dr. King’s dream every day — something that is certainly evident in the Village of Flossmoor.”

Volunteers are needed on Jan. 20 for these projects:

Flossmoor Village Hall, 2800 Flossmoor Road, to assemble 100 care kits with the Flossmoor Community Relations Commission, the Flossmoor Service League and the Flossmoor Volunteer Fire Corp. for local unhoused individuals from 10 a.m. to noon. No registration required. Help is also needed at Flossmoor Village Hall from 9 to 11 a.m. to package and deliver donations with Plan 4 Success. Sign up here.
