Cook County officials announced on Tuesday, Dec. 10, that $2.5 million in funding is available through the Cook County Disaster Response and Recovery Fund to assist suburban Cook County municipalities impacted by the severe storms and tornadoes on July 14 and 15.
Both Homewood and Flossmoor were hit by an EF-1 tornado on July 15.
County officials encouraged municipalities to apply for reimbursement to help cover eligible expenses incurred as part of their disaster response and recovery efforts.
“The storms and tornadoes last summer were a stark reminder of the increasing unpredictability of extreme weather events facing our communities as a result of climate change,” County Board President Toni Preckwinkle said. “This funding not only addresses immediate recovery needs but also reinforces our commitment to building a more resilient region capable of tackling future challenges.”
Applications must be submitted by 5 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 17, 2025, for funding consideration.
