Two oaths of office took place at the Homewood Board of Trustees meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 26, for the Homewood Fire Department.
The positions of lieutenant and captain became available after the retirement of captain Tom Gaskin. Gaskin served the Homewood Fire Department for 26 years.
Matt Moran and Jason Presnak were both approved for promotion to those positions by the Board of Police and Fire Commissioners on Nov. 5.
Presnak was sworn in as captain; his previous position was lieutenant.
Presnak took after his father and grandfather, who also worked with the fire department. His father, Raymond Presnak, retired as fire chief in 2006 after serving the department for 30 years. He died at the age of 70 in 2022.
Presnak worked as a full-time firefighter with the department since 2002 and was promoted to lieutenant in 2019, according to Fire Chief Bob Grabowski.
Presnak holds an associate’s degree in fire science, which he earned from Prairie State College. He has earned several certifications, which also include advanced firefighter, fire apparatus engineer, advanced fire officer 2, and EMT/paramedic.
Moran was sworn in as lieutenant; his previous position was firefighter/paramedic.
Moran had attended the University of Chicago. He worked as a part-time firefighter since 1999 before joining the Homewood Fire Department full-time in 2006, according to Grabowski.
Moran has earned several certifications, a few of which include advanced firefighter, fire apparatus engineer, advanced fire officer 2 and EMT/paramedic.
