Darahn Magnus took a passion for collecting shoes and created a business, Limitless Laces, which he just moved to Flossmoor.
Magnus, who hails from Park Forest, opened his first store in Chicago, but to be closer to home he chose a new location in Shops on Sterling, 1056 Sterling Ave.
He credited a friend who took an entrepreneurship course from Morgan Sullins, who owns Gypsy Fix boutique next door, with introducing him to Sullins. That connection led to the opening of his store in Flossmoor.
Village officials welcomed Magnus to town with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Nov. 28, just as the holiday shopping season was about to begin two days later on Small Business Saturday along with the village’s Celebrate the Season festival.
“This is like a dream right now to be surrounded by this many different amazing shoes,” Mayor Michelle Nelson said. “Thank you for bringing them here.”
Magnus explained how his shoe hobby developed into a business.
“I always loved the new Jordans and looked forward to getting them as a kid. When I had the resources to get them on my own, I started collecting them,” he said. “I realized I could make money doing this. When I got to college, I started my business out of my dorm room.”
