The Drama Group’s production of “Bright Star,” a story of love, redemption and resilience, will take audiences to the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina where secrets of love lost and found are set to bluegrass music.

The story and score by Steve Martin and Edie Brickell follow Billy Cane, a young soldier just home from World War II, who meets Alice Murphy, the editor of the Ashville Southern Literary Journal. Together they discover a powerful secret that alters their lives.
“Bright Star” was nominated for five Tony Awards, six Drama Desk awards and seven Outer Critics Circle Awards. It won the Drama Desk Outstanding Music Award and the Outer Critics Circle Award for Outstanding New Broadway Musical and Outstanding New Score.
The Drama Group production of “Bright Star” is presented at The Drama Group theater at 330 202nd St. in Chicago Heights. Showtimes are at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Dec. 6 and 7, and again at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Dec. 12, 13 and 14. Matinees are at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 8, and at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, and Sunday, Dec. 15.

The Drama Group is continuing its Community Outreach Programs by partnering with All Hands and Hearts, an agency focusing on Hurricane Helene Relief in western North Carolina.The Drama Group will have a donation jar available in the lobby of the Drama Group studio building evenings from Sunday, Dec. 1 through the run of the show, Sunday, Dec. 15.
