Doss, the studios’ 23-year-old owner, is a graduate of Homewood-Flossmoor High School. For her, opening the studio is like a dream coming true. She opened the business in the Shops on Sterling, 1056 Sterling Ave. Suite 10, “to follow my passion. It’s something that I’ve always thought about.”

The space offers beginning artists, and those with an interest for art, a space in which to create. Doss is offering after-school classes for younger residents and is hosting a Paint & Sip party for adults at 6 p.m. Nov. 16.

“To bring art to my community would be fantastic. To be able to teach people to maybe love art as much as I do would be amazing, and maybe just surprise someone with their own creativity. Those are all great things,” Doss said.

The artist has had a passion for art since she was very young. She took all the art classes she could at H-F and then went on to Prairie State College for an associate’s degree. She has had gallery shows at the Union Street Art Gallery in Chicago Heights and at the PSC Christopher Gallery. So far, “it’s been a blast!” she said.

She creates in mixed medium. A display wall outside her studios allows her to show off some of her pieces created in oil pastels, watercolor and ink. “My favorite thing is to explore and play with the different mediums to mix art, because creating art is fun,” she said.

Doss is offering classes for young artists on Mondays and Wednesdays after school. Her studio is open to all Monday through Saturday from noon to 5 p.m. For information, visit artculturestudios.com or call Doss at 708-368-0616.
