Jerry Skafgaard, the long-time store manager of Walt’s Food Center in Homewood, died suddenly on Wednesday, Oct. 31. He was 60 years old.
Skafgaard had worked for the Walt’s organization for 44 years. Shoppers knew him as “Jerry from Walt’s” and recognized him for his caring manner.
Outside of work, Skafgaard was a NASCAR fan and a lover of the outdoors, often spending time fishing or hunting.
Skafgaard is survived by his children, Tyler Skafgaard and his wife, Hannah, and his daughter Lea Tucker and her husband, Kasey; his sister Donna Galvan, and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 6, followed by a service at 7 p.m. at Tews-Ryan Funeral Home, 18230 Dixie Highway in Homewood.
