H-F graduate Jazmin Rhodes awarded $21,000 scholarship  

Jazmin Rhodes, a 2024 graduate of Homewood-Flossmoor High School, received a President’s Scholarship worth $21,000 from Baldwin Wallace University where she is a freshman.

Rhodes is majoring in music theater at the school outside Cleveland. The scholarship award was based on her outstanding academic record at H-F.

Rhodes left her mark on H-F’s theater program. She was a cast member, and often had a leading role, in musicals and plays throughout her high school years. She won a medal for oratory declaration and was ranked seventh in state for dramatic acting in IHSA speech competition in 2023. 

The soprano was a member of the H-F Viking Choir and was selected as a member of the All-State Honors Chorus.

She won the 13th annual August Wilson New Voices competition in 2023. The national competition was hosted by August Wilson New Voices and the League of Chicago Theaters. The honor included a prize of master level theater classes in Chicago and scholarship money.

Rhodes competed as a junior and a senior in the Broadway in Chicago Illinois High School Musical Theatre Awards competition. Students from more than 80 schools across Illinois were judged. In 2023, Rhodes was selected among the top 12 performers. In 2024, she was selected a grand prize winner. The prize was a trip to New York City where she competed for the Jimmy Award, a national prize presented to an outstanding high school student in musical theater.

Rhodes is the daughter of Linda and Warren Rhodes of Homewood.
