Community Shred Day. Homewood will host a paper shredding event from 9 a.m. to noon in the village hall parking lot, 2024 Chestnut Road.
Pumpkin Decorating. Flossmoor Public Library, 1000 Sterling Ave., will host a pumpkin decorating activity from 2 to 3:30 p.m. in the Helen Wilson Meeting Room. Participants shoiuld bring a pumpkin. The library will provide craft supplies. Register here.
I’m Sorry for My Loss Book Signing. Journalists Rebecca Little and Colleen Long, who both grew up in H-F, will sign their book, “I’m Sorry for My Loss,” from 2 to 5 p.m. at Dunning’s Market, 1050 Sterling Ave. in Flossmoor. The book traces the history and issues around women’s reproductive life, including the ways the loss of a pregnancy are treated by society and felt by the pregnant person.
A Haunting in Homewood. Doors will open at 6 p.m. and the show starts at 7 p.m. in the Homewood Science Center, 18022 Dixie Highway, formerly a funeral home, for showings of supernatural, interactive experience brought to you by Spotlight Performance Academy. Only 50 seats available for each show. “Themes of death and macabre may not be suitable for children.”
Homewood Farmers Market. Fresh produce, artisan foods, handcrafted personal care item vendors plus live music will all be available on Martin Square between Ridge Road and Chestnut Road from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Barb and Dan’s Road Ride. Weekly bike ride starts at 8 a.m. Saturday from GoodSpeed Cycle, 2125 W. 183rd St. in Homewood. There are two groups. One is a no-one-gets-dropped group that follows a 20-mile route. Another group goes on a longer ride. Helmets required. Lights encouraged. Riders of all experience levels are welcome.
Off-Leash Bike Ride. A nine-mile ride every Saturday starting at 8:30 a.m. at GoodSpeed Cycle, 2125 W. 183rd St. in Homewood. The route includes Butterfield Creek bike path, past Rover’s Run and through Izaak Walton Preserve. No registration. Donuts upon return.
STEM Saturdays. The Homewood Science Center, 18022 Dixie Highway, is open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. for science play.
Adult Outdoor Game Night. Join the fun at Irons Oaks Environment Learning Center from 7 to 9 p.m. “There will be outdoor games, raffles, delicious appetizers, refreshing beverages, and so much more.” Fee is $25. Buy tickets here.
