Walk Walton, a nature fest and fundraiser for the Homewood Science Center, is set for Sunday, Oct. 20, at the Izaak Walton Preserve, 1100 Ridge Road in Homewood.

This year, the event from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. features:

  • Spooky, Slimey Science in the Black Bear Lodge.
  • Pick a pumpkin from the Pumpkin Patch for decorating.
  • Conservation ecology presentations by HSC’s middle school ecology interns.
  • A chance to interact with bugs at the insect petting zoo hosted by the University of Illinois Extension.
  • Exploring nature with representatives of the Forest Preserves of Cook County.
  • The Illinois Natural History Survey Traveling Science Center, a mobile classroom with exhibits on biodiversity and natural resources hosted by the University of Illinois Prairie Research Institute.

“We’re excited to welcome the community to this year’s Walk Walton on Sunday Oct 20,” said Edie Dobrez, executive director of HSC. “It’s a great opportunity to explore the beauty of Izaak Walton Preserve while supporting important conservation efforts and free educational programs for young learners. Together, we can ensure the next generation has access to both nature and science in meaningful ways.”

Tickets are $10 for kids and $5 for adults 18 and older. Tickets can be purchased through the website at homewoodsciencecenter.org.
