KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS TOOTSIE ROLL PROJECT — Flossmoor Trustee Brian Driscoll announced at the village board meeting Monday that Knights of Columbus members plan to be stationed at the intersection of Flossmoor Road and Sterling Avenue today and Saturday, collecting donations and handing out Tootsie Rolls. All donations will benefit local charitable organizations that support children and adults with intellectual disabilities, including the Illinois Special Olympics.
LEAGUE OF WOMEN VOTERS MIS/DISINFORMATION PROGRAM — From 5:30 to 8 p.m. tonight the local League of Women Voters chapter will host Barb Laimins of the LWV Illinois Mis/Disinformation Task Force at Irwin Community Center, 18120 Highland Ave. in Homewood. Laimins “will share information on how to identify and combat election misinformation and disinformation.” Cost is $25 per person. Refreshments will be served.
COMMUNITY BONFIRE — Homewood-Flossmoor Park District will host a bonfire from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. tonight at Flossmoor Park, Brassie Avenue and Flossmoor Road.
RED & WHITE COMMUNITY DAY — Members of the community are invited to help Homewood-Flossmoor High School celebrate homecoming week today “by wearing and decorating with red and white … the day of the Viking Football Homecoming game vs. Neuqua Valley.”
RECYCLEPALOOZA — From 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Flossmoor will host the annual recycling event in the parking lot at Parker Junior High. The event provides an opportunity to shed difficult to recycle items like televisions, paint and more.
HOMEWOOD FALL FEST — The annual fall celebration and Chili Cook-Off will take place on Martin Avenue in downtown Homewood from noon to 9 p.m. Saturday. Proceeds from the chili tasting will benefit Homewood PTA. The event will include a pumpkin patch for kids, live music, food and activities.
ZAMBONI BIRTHDAY PARTY — From 4:15 to 5:45 p.m. Saturday at the Homewood-Flossmoor Ice Arena, 777 Kedzie Ave., there will be open skating, free mini skating lessons, prizes, giveaways and free birthday cake for the first 100 guests. There will also be a zamboni naming contest.
COMMUNITY SHRED DAY — State Rep. Will Davis will host a community shredding event from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at his office, 1912 W. 174th St., East Hazel Crest. Residents only. Electronics and prescription drugs will also be accepted.
STEM SATURDAYS — Homewood Science Center hosts science activities every Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 18022 Dixie Highway.
HOMEWOOD FARMERS MARKET — Fresh produce, artisan foods, handcrafted personal care item vendors plus live music will all be available on Martin Square between Ridge Road and Chestnut Road from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
BARB AND DAN’S ROAD RIDE — Weekly bike ride start at 8 a.m. Saturday from GoodSpeed Cycle, 2125 W. 183rd St. in Homewood. There are two groups. One is a no-one-gets-dropped group that follows a 20-mile route. Another group goes on a longer ride. Helmets required. Lights encouraged. Riders of all experience levels are welcome.
OFF-LEASH BIKE RIDE — A nine-mile ride every Saturday starting at 8:30 a.m. at GoodSpeed Cycle, 2125 W. 183rd St. in Homewood. The route includes Butterfield Creek bike path, past Rover’s Run and through Izaak Walton Preserve. No registration. Donuts upon return.
